The first non-GERD patient seen by the same GP on each one of 10 consecutive working days was assigned to the control group. Age distribution of the study patients with cow’s milk allergy (CMA) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). After the initial treatment with omeprazole, two thirds of the cases (54 patients, 66.7%) responded well, and all of their symptoms were resolved. Diagnosing Eosinophilic Esophagitis
Magnesium deficiency is another cause of reflux because magnesium helps the sphincter at the bottom of the stomach relax, allowing the food to go down. Stress contributes to reflux. Clearly, food is supposed to go down, not up, when you eat.
Eat smaller meals. Less food in your stomach may minimize the possibility of reflux. Try eating five to six â€œmini-mealsâ€ spaced throughout the day and early evening, instead of three larger meals.
A second dietary intervention involves an elimination diet. This requires the removal of foods that most commonly cause allergy symptoms (shellfish, eggs, wheat, etc.) from the diet. As with GERD, medication to reduce stomach acid production (Protonix, Nexium, Prilosec, Previcid, etc.) helps with EE symptoms.
