The food pipe doesn’t always become inflamed. In up to 2 out of 3 people with reflux symptoms, the membranes lining the food pipe are normal. If the stomach is stretched a lot – for instance after a large meal – the sphincter (circular muscle) at the entrance to the stomach might temporarily loosen.
They put me on esomeprazole but it did not help. So just hang in there, because this is a disease that happens at all ages. If we can see that there are more people suffering the same as us, maybe that will give us the hope we need to continue with our lives as normally as GERD can let us. However, this doesn’t mean I’m “cured” of my GERD.
I went to a different lab than the first test. I grew up with two parents who had constant heartburn. Dad always had antacids in his pocket and mom kept them on her nightstand. I just thought it was a thing that all adults suffered from.

Can anybody out there give me any help please. I have recently been diagnosed with GERD after suffering for a while with almost constant heartburn and a feeling of a lump in my throat. I had a barium swallow which diagnosed the acid reflux which has now been constant for almost 3 months now. I have no idea what triggered it off but it is awful all day apart from first thing in the morning. Then as soon as the day goes on it creeps up and gets worse and worse.

Other symptoms include pain in your chest and/or abdomen, difficulty swallowing, dry cough, hoarseness, nausea, vomiting, bad breath, wheezing, and interrupted sleep. Heartburn (acid reflux) is a symptom, and usually feels like a burning sensation in the chest, under the sternum, and in the esophagus that can extend to the neck, throat, and/or face.
I eat only bland, white, foods most of the time. But STILL I have problems. I believe stress plays an important part in my level of GERD.
